What does a Lake Erie charter cost, and how do we split it?
Last verified
Why doesn't this page give an average price?
Because we'd have to guess. Prices depend on the captain, the boat, the trip length, the season and what's included, and no agency publishes a price survey we can cite. When at least five captains listed at a port post a rate for the same trip type, that port page shows the posted range, with the number of captains and the date. Those ranges come from the captains, not from us.
What should a quote include?
Ask for the price in writing and what it covers:
- The trip type and length (half day, full day, evening).
- How many anglers the price covers, and the cost of each extra person.
- Rods, tackle and bait.
- Fish cleaning, and whether it's extra.
- The deposit amount and the cancellation terms.
What costs are on top of the trip price?
- Fishing licenses for everyone old enough to need one: which license?
- Tip, if you choose to tip. Enter 0% if you don't.
- Fish cleaning, if it isn't included.
- Lodging, fuel and travel to the port.
For example, an Ohio one-day fishing license is $14.00 for an Ohio resident and $27.04 for a non-resident (ODNR, Buy Your Fishing License, verified ). Other states' prices are on the license page.
How do we split it fairly?
Add the trip price, any tip and the extras, then divide by the number of anglers. Licenses are usually per person, so each angler covers their own. The trip-cost splitter does this and lets you share the result with your group.
How do I compare two captains?
Compare the same trip type, the same number of anglers and the same inclusions. A lower price without tackle, bait or cleaning may not be lower in the end. Check each captain's state-list badge and ask the questions on our checklist.
Questions
How much is a Lake Erie fishing charter?
Captains set their own prices. LakeErie.biz doesn't publish averages; port pages show posted rate ranges once five or more listed captains post a rate, dated and marked self-reported.
Is the tip included?
Ask your captain. The calculator lets you set the tip to 0%.
Do I pay LakeErie.biz anything?
No. You pay the captain directly. We don't take bookings or commission.
